Obituary: Thomas Patrick ‘Tommy’ Brooks, 77, formerly of Bardstown

Thomas Patrick “Tommy” Brooks, 77, of St. Maarten, formerly of Bardstown, died peacefully Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025 at St. Maarten, a Caribbean island about 100 miles east of the British Virgin Islands, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 17, 1947, in Louisville. He was the son of Thomas Leo and Elizabeth Brooks. He was a vibrant and adventurous spirit.

He was a graduate of St. Joe Prep and the University of Kentucky, He went on to become a successful controller and accountant for Avis and other local businesses in St. Maarten.

He will be deeply missed for his carefree attitude, infectious sense of humor, and love of good times. His iconic funny t-shirts, sipping on Dewars and soda, and Marlboro in hand will always be remembered. His favorite hangout, Fat Tony’s, will forever honor him with his personal sign “Parking for Tom Brooks” hanging above the bar for everyone to see!

His life was an inspiration to all who knew him, a testament to the power of seeking adventure, embracing the island life, and living with loyalty and joy. His memory will continue to inspire and delight those who were fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by two sisters, Nancy Stumph and Mary Ann Geddes; one brother, Leo Brooks; one uncle, the Rev. Thomas R. Clark; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his extended family in St. Maarten, where he spent most of his adult life.

Rest in peace, dear Tommy. Your spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved you. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Fat Tonys in St. Maarten during March of 2025.
