Obituary: Edmond Thomas ‘Ed’ Broughton, 89, Bardstown

Edmond Thomas “Ed” Broughton, 89, of Bardstown, died Jan. 30, 2025, at his home. He was born Aug. 18, 1935, in Mercer County to his parents, Clarence and Mary Elizabeth Broughton.

He was a retired aircraft technician from General Electric Aircraft Division after having worked at Evandale and Pebbles, Ohio. He was also the owner of Parkway Shell in Bardstown. He was a member of Bardstown Baptist Church and served as deacon, member of the John Mark Sunday School class and over the years served on numerous committees. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and golf. He enjoyed volunteering with Buckeye Baptist Builders, Bread for Life Community Food Pantry and St. Vincent dePaul Thrift Store.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Henrietta Cole Broughton, the mother of his children.

He is survived by his wife, Mina Yewell Jewell Broughton; one daughter, Janice White (David) of Bardstown; one son, Ernie Broughton (Carol) of Hernando, Miss.; two stepsons, Louis Jewell (Hallie) and Scott Jewell, both of Bardstown; two sisters, Doris Phillips (Frankie) of Danville and Dorothy Boyd (Kenneth) of Standford; two sisters-in-laws Maxine “Pat” Hahn of Bardstown and Pauline Shields of Lawrenceburg; two grandchildren, James Broughton and Natalie Thompson (Jimmy); and several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, at Bardstown Baptist Church with Pastor John Pendleton and the Rev. Gary McCammon officiating. Burial is in Bardstown Cemetery.

Visitation is 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to the Bardstown Baptist Church Building Fund.
