Obituary: William Donald ‘Donnie’ Dones, 73, Bardstown

William Donald “Donnie” Dones, 73, of Bardstown, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was born Dec. 15, 1951, to William Carl “Bill” and Carmel Faye Vowels Dones. He graduated from My Old Kentucky Home High School in 1969 and served in the U.S. Army. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Lebanon Junction.

WILLIAM DONALD “DONNIE” DONES

He was married to Lora Faye Shuffitt Dones for 51 years. He worked at Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont for 44 years, retiring in 2013. Donnie was a good man who worked hard to provide for his family. He loved to play pranks on his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved University of Kentucky Basketball and old cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Vernia Lee Dones.

Survivors include his wife, Lora Faye Shuffitt Dones; two sons, William Eric Dones (Tina) and Nathan Cory Dones (Amy); six sisters, Hazel Jackson, Odell Cobb (Roy), Wanda Hayden, Juanita Rogers, Linda Greenwell (Kenny), Ann Avis; one brother, Mike Dones (Connie); and eight grandchildren, Shelby (Xavier) Dones-Bullock, Haley Dones, Blake Dones, Cory Dones, Lora Dones, EmmaRae Spencer Smith (Koda), Jacob Spencer and Lauren Riddell,

The funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with Chaplain Ray Johnson officiating. Burial is private.

Visitation is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, at the funeral home.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
