Bardstown Police investigating break-in, theft from local minit mart

Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, 7:20 a.m. — The Bardstown Police Department is seeking the public’s help on a break-in and theft from a local convenience store that took place early Wednesday morning.

According to a police department press release, the thieves who broke into the Speedy Mart, 450 East Stephen Foster Ave., also known as the Log Cabin Minit Mart, appeared to have been experienced enough to know how to disable the store’s alarm system before they forced entry into the building. Once inside the building, they destroyed the video surveillance system. The break-in is believed to have taken place Wednesday between 4-5:30 a.m. The thieves took high-value items including several hundred cartons of cigarettes and the store’s safe.

Police believe the crime was committed by the several subjects, including the same men who attempted to break into Maywood Food Mart, 2590 Springfield Road, earlier the same morning. In that attempted break-in, the thieves cut wires they believed would silence the store’s alarm, but did not completely disable the system. When the men forced their way into the store, the alarm sounded and the men fled the area.

Anyone who has information on this crime is asked to contact Bardstown Police at (502) 348-6811.
