Obituary: Donald Ray Hardin, 88, formerly of Fairfield

Donald Ray Hardin, 88, formerly of Fairfield, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at Baptist Health Louisville after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born March 12, 1936, in Spencer County to the late James Corbett and Maggie Rae Morrow Hardin.

He was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Transportation and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He formerly served on the Fairfield City Council and he was a member of Little Union Baptist Church. He was an avid UofL fan, loved being outdoors, mowing grass and gardening. He was a fanatic about keeping his vehicles clean.

The family would like to thank the fourth-floor palliative care team at Baptist Health and Hosparus Health for their kind, compassionate care.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Yvonne Baker Hardin; one son, John Gaines; two sisters, Alberta Hedden and Evelyn Bowman; and two brothers, Willard Hardin and James Hardin.

He is survived by one son, Brian (Tracy) Hardin of Middletown; six grandchildren, Carly (Maceo) Cosper, Cale Gaines, Zachary Dyer, Jenna Hardin, Thomas Dyer, Andrew Dyer; four great-grandchildren, Rosiana Cosper, Tessa Cosper, Grace Cosper and Marceleno Gaines; and. several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Chaplain Todd Sprouse and Ron Bowman officiating. Burial is in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation is 3:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025 and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at the funeral home.
