Obituary: Chester Alphonsus ‘Sonny’ Morris Jr., 80, New Hope
Chester Alphonsus “Sonny” Morris Jr., 80, of New Hope, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born Nov. 26, 1944, in Nelson County. He was a retired employee of General Electric Appliance Park. He loved to farm and raise cattle. He was a member of the Kentucky and Marion County Cattleman’s Associations and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He honorably served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Alphonsus Morris Sr. and Wilhelmina Gilkey Morris; and two sisters, Margie Bozarth and Martha Medley.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Joyce Drury Morris; two daughters, Carrie Morris Morgeson and Amy Korfhage (Eric), both of Louisville and Bob Morris (Alison) of Bardstown; three sisters, Libby Palmer and Mary Moczulski (Ted), both of Louisville, and Agnes Mattingly (Tommy) of New Hope; one brother, Kenny Morris of Hodgenville; four grandchildren, Matthew, Maddie, Emma, and Ryan; two stepchildren, Tony Hornback (Dana) of Arkansas and Carol Sue Wohlgamuth (Scott) of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; four stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-granddaughter.
The Mass of Christian Burial is noon Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in New Hope with burial in the church cemetery with military rites by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is 9-11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at the Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto.
Pallbearers are J. H. Thompson, Willie Downs, Matthew Morris, DaniDaniel Morris, Billy Drury, and Billy Palmer. Honorary Pallbearers are Tim Drury, Donnie Drury, and Gary Harris.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
