Obituary: Billie Dale ‘BD’ Smith, 81, Taylorsville

Billie Dale “BD” Smith, 81, of Taylorsville, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, at his home. He was born Oct. 16, 1943, in Spencer County to the late Vurgial Kirby and Mary Elizabeth Lay Smith.

He owned and operated BD Smith Trucking and did custom farm work. He enjoyed farming, being outdoors, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play sports. He was a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Hallie Burgin, Vurgial Smith and Mary Laswell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Wanda Lynch Smith; two sons, Kirby Dale (Andrea) Smith of Campbellsville and Jason Alan (Kay) Smith of Taylorsville; one brother, Ronald S. (Renee) Smith of Troy, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Tyler (Raegan) Stevens of Greensburg, Hallie Smith (fiancé Harrison Bratton) of Baltimore, Kameron Smith, Kaylyn Smith, and Karsyn Smith of Campbellsville, and Brady Smith and Kynnedy Murphy, both of Taylorsville; and two great-grandchildren, McKinley Stevens and Rylan Stevens.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville with Bro. Ronn Brooks and Bro. Chad Goodlett officiating. Burial is in Elk Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025 and 8-11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2025 at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Elk Creek Baptist Church or The Gideons International.

The Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
