Obituary: Hazel Ritchie O’Bryan, 92, New Haven
Hazel Ritchie O’Bryan, 92, of New Haven, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, at Loretto Motherhouse. She was born Sept. 2, 1932, in Nelson County. She retired from Nu-Kote and the Nelson County Clerk’s Office. She was a volunteer for Hospice of Nelson County, a member of Bardstown At Home, and St. Thomas Catholic Church, where she played the church organ for more than 70 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen “Hot Taters” O’Bryan; one daughter, Virginia Allen Gilpin; one baby boy, John O’Bryan; one granddaughter, Katie O’Bryan Simpson; two sisters, Lois Hutchins, and Mary Elizabeth Clark; one brother, William Earl “Bill” Ritchie Jr.; and one son-in-law, Ricky Hardin.
She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Hardin and Mary Frances Ray, both of Bardstown, and Jean Marie (Kenny) Browning of Lebanon; four sons, Joseph Allen O’Bryan Jr., James Keith (Kathy) O’Bryan, and Michael Lawrence (Alice) O’Bryan, all of Bardstown, and Vincent Paul (Kathy) O’Bryan of Horse Cave; one son-in-law, Danny Gilpin of Culvertown; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass was Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery with the Rev. Brandon DeToma officiating.
Memorial contributions may go to St. Thomas Catholic Church, Masses, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
