Obituary: Helen Fay Shain, 96, Cox’s Creek
Helen Fay Shain, 96, Cox’s Creek, died Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Flaget Memorial Hospital after suffering a serious fall. She was born Sept. 5, 1928, in Cox’s Creek to Augustus and Mamie Sallee Snellen Coomes.
She was a retired employee of Owens-Illinois. She loved to mow her grass, raise flowers, and ride horses. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Thixton Lane Baptist Church in Louisville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1999 by her husband of 49 years, Bliss Jones Shain; two sisters, Hazel Bowman and her twin, Dorothy Meyer; two brothers, Preston Coomes and Elwood Coomes; and one daughter, Betty Jean Shain.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Fay Shain of Louisville, Janet Lee Shain (Danny) Raisor and Patricia Ann Shain both, of Bardstown; three sons, Norman Ray Shain, David Keith (Corinne) Shain, and John Roger Shain, all of Cox’s Creek; three sisters, Mildred Milligan, Barbara (Austin) Weller, and Glenda Magruder, all of Cox’s Creek; six grandsons, Brian Raisor, Luke Raisor, Josh Shain, Alex Shain, Spencer Shain, and Ethan Shain; seven granddaughters, Aimee Raisor, Meghan Shain Miller, Lauren Shain Kurtz, Kimberly Shain Deats, Claire Shain, Lindsey Shain Gill, and Natalie Shain; 10 great-grandsons, Blake Raisor, Grant Raisor, Joseph Schwartz, Sam Kurz, Ezra Kurtz, Dominic Kurtz, Jonathan Shain, Jacob Shain, Desmond Gallahan, and Archie Shain; seven great-granddaughters, Alexis Raisor, Teagan Kurtz, Fiona Miller, Elizabeth Shain, Avery Perkins, Charlie Shain, and Elle Deats; and one great-great grandson, Alexander Layne Raisor.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, with burial in New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2025, and 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the funeral home.
