Obituary: Dorothy Patricia “Patsy” Lyon, 83, Cox’s Creek

Dorothy Patricia “Patsy” Lyon, 83, of Cox’s Creek, formerly of Loretto, died Sunday, March 2, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. She was born Oct. 29, 1941, in Marion County. She was a former homemaker and member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She was a woman with many skills and took great pride in all that she did. She was an avid quilter, curtain designer, seamstress and a great cook. She acquired numerous hobbies throughout her life. Above all, she was the most loving wife, mother and mamaw to her one and only grandson, Coleman, who continued to make her eyes light up till the end.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Coleman and Gertrude Mattingly; three sisters, Mary Agnes Helm, Joyce Ann Medley, and Carol Kincer; and two brothers, John Mattingly and Billy Coleman Mattingly.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Bobby Lyon; two daughters, Karen Mattingly (Jeff) of Cox’s Creek and Lisa Pope (Marty) of Bardstown; one son, Ricky Lyon (Tina) of Louisville; two sisters, Judy Blandford and Martha Hardesty; one brother, Patrick Mattingly; and one grandson, Coleman Mattingly (Dannielle Gilkey) of Bardstown.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Loretto with the Rev. Richard T. Goodin officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.

Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
