Obituary: Lawrence Ronell ‘Ron’ Shanks, 70, Louisville

Lawrence Ronell “Ron” Shanks, 70, of Louisville died Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Baptist Health Louisville. He was born Oct. 25, 1954, in Berea to Irvine and Bessie Estell Shanks.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of Midway College. He retired from the transportation industry after serving as facilities manager at Flaget Memorial Hospital and Bio Med Tech in California and Kentucky. He was an avid reader, movie buff and model train hobbyist. He treasured his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Irvine Shanks.

He is survived by three sons, Nicholas (Amanda) Shanks and Eric Shanks, both of Bardstown, and Justin Shanks of Elizabethtown; his former wife and lifelong friend, Sharon Shanks of Bardstown; his mother, Bessie Shanks of Richmond; three sisters, Vickie Shanks of Floresville, Texas, Janice (Keith) Radford of Hopkinsville, and Linda Shanks of Richmond; one brother, Richard (Christie) Shanks of Richmond; two grandsons, Caleb and Noah; two granddaughters, Brooklynn and Carmen; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Cremation was chosen by the family.

Visitation is 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
