Obituary: William Lewis ‘Bill’ Spalding, 88, formerly of Bloomfield

William Lewis “Bill” Spalding, 88, Mooresville, Ind., formerly of Bloomfield, died Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Grand Valley Health & Rehabilitation in Martinsville.

He was born Sunday, June 14, 1936, to the late George Edward and Lucy Kendrick (Lewis) Spalding in Bloomfield.

He was a 1955 graduate of St. Joseph Preparatory School in Bardstown. He attended Bellarmine University and Indiana University. He retired from Larry Bird Ford, later John Walton Ford, in Martinsville after 20 years of employment as a parts manager. After retirement he drove for Morgan County Aging Services.

He was a member of Hoosier Harvest Church and was very active with the Morgan County Civil Defense, which later became Morgan County Emergency Management. He will be remembered for his kindness to others and his magnetic personality that could make friends with anyone.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry “Deanne” (Dubois) Spalding; his parents, George and Lucy; and his stepmother, Catherine Hagan Spalding.

He is survived by his wife, Judith “Judi” (Jacobs) Spalding; one daughter, Shannon Spalding; two sons, William “Bill” Spalding (Michelle “Mickey”) and Antony “Tony” Spalding; three stepsons, Brian Martin (Tracy), Jeffrey Martin (Jeanne), Wade Martin (Traci); two sisters, Lucy Gorman and Julia Spalding Hagan; four brothers, George Spalding Jr., Richard Spalding, Ernie Spalding and Daniel Spalding; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The funeral was Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Hoosier Harvest Church in Martinsville with Pastor Chris Page officiating. Burial was in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.

The Costin Funeral CHapel in Martinsville, Ind., was in charge of arrangements.
