Obituary: Ruth Rosalind ‘Rosie’ Cahoe Thompson, 88
Ruth Rosalind “Rosie” Cahoe Thompson, 88, died May 25, 2025, peacefully at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and postmaster.
She was born in New Haven July 24, 1936. She married Ray Thompson at St. Catherine Catholic Church Feb. 12, 1955. She was a lifelong parishioner. She and Ray were married for 67 years.
She got her start in the New Hope Post Office in 1969 and was promoted to Postmaster of New Hope in 1983 before retiring in 1997.
Their home became the hub for gatherings of all kinds and she was the ultimate host. There was hardly a day that someone didn’t stop by to say hello and her home was open to everyone.
She was full of life and the matriarch of the family. She treasured her friendships and the many Saturday night card games. What excited her the most was her large family. She had 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. All the grandchildren and great-grandchildren felt her unconditional love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Ray Thompson; one son, William Louis Thompson; one grandson, Joe Eddie Ball; one son-in-law, David Mudd; her parents; Susan Ada Smith and John Harlan Cahoe; two sisters, Elizabeth Christine Blandford (CA) and Mary Edith Reiter (Georgie); two brothers, William Harland Cahoe (Mary Ann) and James Louis (Shorty) Cahoe; and one sister-n-law, Barbara Wayne Cahoe.
She is survived by three daughters, Pamela Ann Ball (Larry), Mary Thompson Henry (Kent) and Gina Marie Mudd; two sons, John Ray Thompson (Diane) and Albert Eugene Thompson (Etta); one sister, Margaret Mary Boone (Joe); two brothers, Edwin Eugene Cahoe (Mary Catherine) and Albert Chandler “Happy” Cahoe (Rose Ann).
The funeral was Friday, May 30, 2025, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in New Haven.
The family request donations to be made to St. Catherine Catholic Church, in lieu of flowers.
The William R. Rust Funeral Home New Haven Chapel in New Haven is in charge of arrangements.
