Obituary: Gregory Francis Fischer, 74, New Hope
Gregory Francis Fischer, 74, New Hope, died Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Norton Hospital in Louisville with loving family members by his side.
He was born Aug. 1, 1950, in Covington. He dedicated much of his life to serving his community and pursuing his passions. His career included serving as the HeadStart Director for Central Kentucky HeadStart in Lebanon, where he made a lasting impact on countless families.

He was a lifelong farmer and devoted breeder of thoroughbred horses. He found great joy in working the land and raising champion animals. He was a member of the New Hope community, and was a founding member and former chief of the New Hope Fire Department. He also served as a board member for the former Boston Water Department. He was always striving to improve the lives of those around him.
He shared his love of sports by coaching soccer at Marion County High School, Thomas Nelson High School, and New Haven School, inspiring young athletes with his knowledge and encouragement. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending days at the track. He was a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds, UK basketball and football, and the Cincinnati Bengals. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, community, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Francis Fischer and Constance Rose Fischer Zimmerman; his stepfather, Robert Zimmerman; two sisters, Elizabeth Hambrick and Miriam Kelly; one brother, Joseph Fischer; one step brother, Bob Zimmerman; two brothers in-law, Howard Smith and Tim Kelly; and one nephew, Timmy Kelly.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Linda Goepferich Fischer; two sons, Joseph Fischer of Nashville and Gregory Fischer (Lynn) of Narberth, Penn.; three sisters, Mary Brackman (Mark) of Wilmington, N.C., Anne Fischer-Smith of Tracy, Calif., and Connie Klump (William) of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; two brothers, Michael Fischer (JoAnne) of Martinsville, Ind. and John Fischer (Penny) of Marietta, Ga.; one stepbrother, Jim Zimmerman (Lorraine) of Apopka, Fla.; two grandsons, Jackson and Boden; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Cremation was chosen.
The Memorial Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in New Hope with the Rev. Biju Chathely officiating.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, at Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto with a 7 p.m. prayer service with Deacon Dean Giulitto.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, 1841 Paynes Depot Road, Georgetown, KY 40324.
