Obituary: Sylvia ‘Jean’ Brewer, 87, Coxs Creek

Sylvia “Jean” Brewer, 87, of Coxs Creek, died Sunday, June 1, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born in Louisville Dec. 14, 1937, to the late Otha Hadley and Sarah Jane Harvey.

She was a loving wife, mother, Memaw, and friend. Her family was the center of her universe. She radiated happiness, kindness, and compassion, touching the lives of everyone around her. She had a gentle soul and a heart full of grace, she touched the lives of many through her quiet strength, deep faith, and acts of love.

She was a devout Christian. Her home was a place of peace, prayer, and blooming flowers. She found joy in her garden. She brought laughter, warmth, and authenticity to every moment. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 62 years, William Brewer; one daughter, Anita Darlene Foster; one grandson, Michael David Foster Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory two son, William Keith Brewer (Kim) and Gregory Brewer; three grandchildren, Wes Brewer, Bradley Brewer (Cindy), and Cammie Lance (Arthur); eight great-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many family and friends.

The funeral is noon Monday, June 9, 2025, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Highway at Brooks Road).

Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2025, and 10 a.m. to noon Monday, June 9m, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial is in Brookland Cemetery.

The Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
