Opinion: The future of our nation and the importance of strong leadership

Wednesday, June 4, 2025 — As I write this, President Donald J. Trump has been back in office for 133 days. In that short time, we’ve already seen many positive changes take place across our country — some immediate, and others whose full benefits may not be realized for months or even years to come.

Over the past four years, we witnessed a deeply troubling reality unfold. Former President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline — though long suspected —has become increasingly difficult to ignore. While I wish him no harm and pray for his recovery, especially in light of his recent cancer diagnosis, the truth remains that for much of his presidency, it seemed that others were making critical decisions on his behalf. That deception runs deep, and as each week passes, more comes to light. This is not merely a political issue — it’s a national security issue. We need a Commander-in-Chief who can think clearly and act decisively in a split second, especially in times of crisis.

President Trump now faces numerous international conflicts and foreign policy challenges inherited from the previous administration. I believe strongly that peace is achieved not through weakness or appeasement, but through strength. I also believe that history will show that the bold actions taken during this term will ultimately serve the best interest of the American people.

Looking ahead to Kentucky, the retirement of Sen. Mitch McConnell marks a major turning point for our state. With a new U.S. Senator soon to be elected, Kentuckians must ensure that we choose someone who not only reflects our conservative values but also has the ability to work across the aisle and get things done. This is especially important when it comes to critical issues like energy, agriculture, manufacturing, and other industries vital to Kentucky’s economy and way of life.

As I’ve said many times before, get involved, talk to the candidates, and educate yourself before heading to the ballot box. Our system of government only works when the people are active participants. The future of our country and our commonwealth depends on it.
