Obituary: Kiersten J. Washburn Ray, 43, Chapin, S.C.

Kiersten J. Washburn Ray, 43, of Chapin, S.C. died Sunday, June 1, 2025, at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Dec. 22, 1981, in Nelson County to the late J. Larry Washburn and Phyllis J. Bailey Washburn.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin, S.C. She loved volunteering at Cheer Passion Allstars and Abner Montessori where her daughters attended. She loved to craft, making items for the entire cheer team.

She survived breast cancer for more than five years and wanted more emphasis on finding a cure for metastatic breast cancer.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Sonny Washburn, her grandmother, Jean Grigsby, and a great niece, Bryleigh Clark.

She is survived by her husband, Nathan Ray, two daughters, Maisie Isabelle Ray and Charleigh Grace Ray; her mother, Phyllis Washburn of Chaplin; one sister, Sherry Isaac Frye of Springfield; one brother, Jason (Ciera) Washburn of Richmond; her grandmother, Betty Bailey of Chaplin;, plus several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law she considered her own.

The Mass of Christian Burial for is 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fredericktown Rd. with the Rev. Augustine Judd officiation. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

A vigil service will be held in Chapin, S.C., at a later date at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church followed by a reception at Abner Montessori.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
