Obituary: William Gary Norris, 54

William Gary Norris, 54, died Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Lebanon as a result of an auto accident. He was born Jan. 30, 1971, in Holy Cross. He spent his life rooted in the communities of his beloved home state.

He was a man of many talents and boundless generosity, he was known as a “jack of all trades and master of most.” Whether fixing something around the house or lending a hand to a neighbor in need, he was always ready to help—quietly and without expectation. His selflessness defined him; he gave freely of his time and energy to friends, family, and neighbors alike.

WILLIAM GARY NORRIS

He had a deep love for the outdoors. He found peace and joy in nature and could often be found outside enjoying its quiet beauty. Sundays held special meaning for him—he made it a ritual to visit his father’s grave and carefully clean the headstone of dirt and grass clippings. It was one of many ways he honored those he loved.

Family was at the heart of his world. He was a devoted caretaker for his mother, Shirley Cundiff Norris. He cherished time spent with his two sisters, Jana Ballard of Loretto and Karen Turnau (Jeff) of Pickerington, Ohio; and his three brothers, Thomas Norris of Tipp City, Ohio; Rick Norris (Rhonda) of Taylorsville; and Joe Norris (Lisa) of Raywick. Gary shared a special bond with his twelve nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and great-nephews. To them—and to many others—he was more than an uncle: he was an entertainer, mentor, stand-in father figure, and constant source of support.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Bernard Norris of Loretto.

Gary’s legacy is one of unwavering kindness and quiet strength. He will be remembered not only for what he did but for how he made others feel—valued, supported, and loved. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.

Cremation was chosen. Committal Rites were held Saturday, June 14, 2025 in Holy Cross Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Smith officiating.
