Obituary: Jeroyd ‘Jerry’ Frank Evans, 90
Jeroyd “Jerry” Frank Evans, 90, died peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, at Signature HealthCARE of Elizabethtown. He was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Coatopa, Ala., to Jobe and Rosa Evans. He was raised by his aunt Maude Davies in Des Moines, Iowa.

He retired from the U.S. Army in 1973. He worked as a Regional Sales Manager for E.I. DuPont, retiring in 1995. While an avid golfer, his greatest passion was giving back to his community and service to others. He was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church in Bardstown. He was a lifetime member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Honorary GrandMaster, Euclid Lodge No. 13, Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliated, and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a past president of the Lebanon NAACP. He was the first African-American elected to the Marion County School Board. He was co-president of the Marion County Youth Center. He served as a member of the Kentucky Board of Ophthalmic Dispensers, appointed by Governor Andy Beshear, from 2021-2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Fred, Magnolia, Charlie, and John C. “Ted” Evans and David Davies.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy (Porter) Evans; one daughter, Gussie Hayes (Ossie) Hendrix of Harvest, Ala.; one son, Timothy Frank (Janet Miller) Evans, of Danville, Calif.;, three grandchildren, Kimberly N. (Shawn) Glanton of Fayetteville, N.C., Elizabeth Martina Evans of New York and Erin Belita Evans of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one great-grandchild, Parker J. Glanton; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 10 a.m Sept. 3, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Bardstown with the Rev. Michael N. Smith officiating. Burial is in the Lebanon National Cemetery. A repass follows the burial at the St. Augustine Parish Center in Lebanon.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, and 9-9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at First Baptist Church.
In lieu of memorial donations, the family requests that donations be made to either The Lebanon Chapter 3095, of the NAACP or The Euclid Lodge No. 13, Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliated.
