Obituary: Joseph Leo McIntyre, 79, Bardstown

Joseph Leo McIntyre, 79, of Bardstown died Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, surrounded and held in prayer by his wife and loving family.

He was born July 17, 1946, in Louisville to the late William McIntyre and Elizabeth Warren McIntyre.

He was a dedicated farmer and journeyman stationary steam engineer for Ford Motor Company Louisville Assembly Plant who retired after 40 years of service. He and his wife are members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was a loving husband, father and papaw, and many knew him for his love of his farm, his family, his friends and his faith. He enjoyed working with his family on the farm that he built, hosting fish fries, gardening and keeping everyone busy with chores.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years, Emily Blandford McIntyre; his mother, Esther Jackson McIntyre; one son, Travis Smith; and three siblings Bob Jackson, Mary Presnell and John Jackson.

He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Catherine Smith McIntyre; two daughters, Dr. Kelley McIntyre (David Dillard) and and Elizabeth St. Peter (Michael); one son, Dr. Michael McIntyre (Marsha); seven grandchildren, Jacob McIntyre, Emily St. Peter, Levi McIntyre, Savannah St. Peter, Samuel McIntyre, Lyla St. Peter and Madelyn St. Peter; additional family joined by marriage including one son, Jeremy Smith (Brenda); one grandchild Patrick Smith; and 19 siblings Jack Jackson, Pat Schalack, Jerry Jackson, Margie Curran, Jim Jackson, Sherri Moffett, Sandy Kay Lubben, Phillis Cecil, Donnie Carrico, Mary Brooks, Freddy Carrico (Lois), Freida Bayliss (Dan), Jeannie Logsdon (Jerry), Margaret Wagoner (Tim), Gerald Carrico (Teresa), Brenda Rapier (Mark), Phillip Carrico (Tammy) and Rose Haydon (John).

The Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Augustine Judd officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fredericktown.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
