Obituary: James Cannon ‘Jim’ Simpson, 87, Bloomfield
James Cannon “Jim” Simpson, 87, of Bloomfield, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Bloomfield to the late Byron R. And Eleanor Simpson.

He was a retired employee of Four Roses and Seagram’s Distillery. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church where he served in the choir. He also served in the Kentucky National Guard.
He loved hunting, fishing and riding horses. He enjoyed sports and loved watching his grandchildren play basketball, softball and baseball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Spears and June Cannon; and one brother, Billy Simpson.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Stevens Simpson; one son, James Cannon (Amy) Simpson Jr. of Bardstown; three sisters, Sr. Grace OSU Of Mount St. Joseph, Martha Wolf of Elizabethtown and Elizabeth Simpson of Bloomfield; three brothers, Bryon R. Simpson II of Louisville, Pat Simpson of Fairfield, and Mike (Ann Lindle) Simpson of Bloomfield; two grandchildren, James Cannon Simpson III and Eleanor Kathleen “Nora Kate” Simpson; and several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Kirby Rust and the Rev. Quan Nguyen officiating.
Visitation is 4-8 po,.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
The Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
