Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, 11:15 p.m. — The former home of Nelson County Industries in the 800 block of Allison Avenue – and once home to a sewing factory – is one step closer to being demolished.
The Bardstown City Council voted Tuesday night to accept the low bid of $67,300 from Rame Contracting LLC of Springfield to completely remove the building and its foundation from the property.
City engineer Jessica Filiatreau said the work would transform the property into empty property that can be later sold and redeveloped.
“We’re taking it back to a basic lot,” she told the council. “We’re taking it all the way down to the dirt.”
Councilman Fred Hagan asked Filiatreau where the money is coming from to cover the demolition costs. Public Works Director Larry Hamilton said the costs would be paid from the cities’ land acquisition fund. Any money from the sale of the property would be used to reimburse the fund, he explained.
The council voted unanimously to award the bid.
KOHS GRANT. The council also approved a municipal order giving Mayor Bill Sheckles the authority to accept a $35,000 grant from the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security that the Bardstown Fire Department is receiving.
