One dead after vehicle drives into Nat Rogers Road floodwaters

Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, 9:45 p.m. —  One person died Tuesday evening after the vehicle they were driving on Nat Rogers Road entered high water covering the roadway at Bull Run. An eyewitness told police he saw the vehicle enter the water and disappear. Nelson County Dispatch received the call about 6:35 Tuesday evening.

The county emergency management dive team and Nelson County EMS was called to the scene. The witness helped police and the dive team locate the area where the car entered the water.

At about 7:50 p.m. the vehicle was located, a wrecker was requested and the county coroner was advised to be ready to respond to the accident scene. Officers at the scene asked dispatchers to have the state road department bring warning signs to close the roadway. A road department official told officers hey had signs in place regarding the high water; a deputy said there was no sign visible on the Boston side of Nat Rogers Road, and state crews responded to replace the missing sign.

The Rolling Fork Fire Department responded to assist. The identity of the victim or victims are still pending. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
