Burglary suspect arrested after victim finds him in same bed

Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, 9 p.m. — A Bardstown man was arrested on burglary charges after his victim awoke to find  the alleged burglar lying in the same bed.

Owen L. “Petie” Maddox, 33, was arrested after an investigation by Bardstown Police of an incident that happened in the early morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 26th in Rogan Mobile Home park.

According to police, the victim awoke about 4:46 Saturday morning to find a shirtless black man lying in the same bed. As the victim ran to the kitchen to locate a knife for self-defense, the intruder ran from the home and into the woods between the mobile home park and Smith Brothers Distributing. A witness elsewhere in the home also saw the man leave the residence. Police believe the man took about $160 in cash from the home.

Police searched the area but did not locate the shirtless man. The victim located a wallet with an identification card belonging to Owen L. Maddox. Maddox was subsequently arrested by city police at 11:09 Saturday morning. He was charged with second-degree burglary and two counts of menacing.
