Richard Steven Gray, Sr., 50, of Anderson, Ind., died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, in Anderson, Ind.

RICHARD STEVEN GRAY SR.

He was born May 14, 1961, in Marion County. He was an owner and trainer of standardbred horses. He was also a blacksmith, a woodworker and a former board member of the Indiana Horseman Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Sanders Gray, Sr., and Emma Jean Abell Gray; and three siblings, Mary Sanders McCauley and infants Mary Ella Gray and James Archie Gray.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Russell Gray; two sons, Stevie Gray of Gravel Switch, and Brandon Gray, at home; one daughter, Emily Gray, at home; one brother, Jack (Martha) Gray, Jr. of Lebanon; seven sisters, Cary Jean (Gilbert) Bright of Palm Beach, Fla., Terry Ann (James) Gootee of Siimpsonville, Emma Jean (Stuart) Thompson of Louisville, Teresa Jane (Pete) Thompson, Pigeon (Michael) Deep, Peggy Sue (Daryl) Grant, all of Lebanon, Karen Marie (Danny Ray) Caldwell of Finley; and one brother-in-law, Larry McCauley of Lebanon; and one grandson, Jamie Gray of Gravel Switch.

The funeral is 2 p.m Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto. Burial is in St. Augustine Cemetery in Lebanon.  Bro. Harold Gribbins will officiate.

Visitation is 4-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, and 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at the funeral home.
