Suspect arrested in early morning South Fourth Street shooting

UPDATED Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, 2:50 a.m. — One man was arrested on assault charges early Saturday morning after he allegedly shot and wounded a man at a home in the 300 block of South Fourth Street in Bardstown.

Nelson County  Dispatch received a 911 call about 1:40 Saturday morning regarding a man with a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound to the stomach. Bardstown Police responded to a South Fourth Street address and determined the man’s wound was not self-inflicted and that a second individual with a firearm fled on foot after the shooting. City police were joined by sheriff’s deputies as they searched the areas of South Fourth and South Fifth Streets for a suspect described as a white male with red hair and wearing an army jacket and jeans. After a short search, police located the man near Bardstown Mills.

The shooting victim was a 44-year-old man who was shot in the abdomen with what was believed to be a .22 caliber weapon. He was taken to Flaget Memorial Hospital for evaluation by Nelson County EMS. The victim was then transferred to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.

Bardstown Police are investigating the incident.
