Police release the identities of shooter, victim of Saturday shooting
Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, 3 p.m. — Bardstown Police have released the identities of the victim of Saturday morning’s shooting on South Fourth Street in Bardstown and the name of the man arrested after the shooting.
Edward “Eddie” O’Bryan, 58, was arrested by Bardstown Police just after 2 a.m. Saturday following an investigation into a shooting incident at 302 S. Fourth St.
As reported first by the Nelson County Gazette, police were initially told a man at the South Fourth Street address suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim was Roger Cahoe, 34, of Bardstown. Witnesses told officers O’Bryan allegedly shot Cahoe and then saw O’Bryan leave the residence with a gun in his hand.
O’Bryan was arrested outside 304 B S. Third St., and a .22-caliber firearm was recovered nearby. He was charged with first-degree assault and was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
Police believe the incident started as a result of an argument between Cahoe and his girlfriend, and as it escalated O’Bryan became involved. Police said the shooting actually happened at 201 W. Muir St.
Cahoe was first taken to Flaget Memorial Hospital and later transferred to University Hospital in Louisville.
Bardstown Police are asking that anyone with information about this incident contact them at 348-6811.
