Man, woman injured after struck by car while awaiting help on BG

Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, 11:35 a.m — Two people who were involved in an accident on the Blue Grass Parkway Sunday morning were later  struck and injured by another car while they were standing in the emergency lane awaiting assistance.

The accident happened in the westbound lane at the 16 mile marker of the parkway just before 10 a.m. A deputy sheriff was on scene to help the man and woman when they were struck and injured. The pair were dragged 30-35 feet after they were struck, the officer told dispatchers.

Nelson County EMS transported the 28-year-old woman to a landing zone at the Nelson County Fairgrounds. She was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Louisville with a broken leg, cuts and abrasions. The male victim was transported by Nelson County EMS to University Hospital.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident.
