One dead, three injured in Woodlawn Road head-on collision
Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, 11:32 p.m. (UPDATED Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, 11:25 a.m) — A New Hope woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle head-on collision late Friday night on Woodlawn Road about 3/4 of a mile from its intersection with Bloomfield Road.
Janice M. Hicks, 52, died when the 2003 Chevy Corsica she was driving was struck head-on by a 2000 Pontiac operated by Stephanie Welch, 19, of Bardstown.
The Bardstown Fire Department, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and Nelson County EMS were dispatched to the accident scene about 11:11 p.m. Welch and her passengers, Kimberly Cornell, 18, and a 15-year-old girl. were taken by EMS to Flaget Memorial Hospital for treatment. Welch complained of severe back pain, right arm and jaw pain; Cornell complained of rib pain and the 15-year-old complained of back pain and an ankle injury. Welch and the 15-year-old were transferred from Flaget to University Hospital early Saturday morning.
Woodlawn Road was closed to through traffic from Filiatreau to Spencer Mattingly Lane while the accident was investigated and the vehicles removed. Traffic was redirected around the accident scene. New Haven Police Chief K.C. Holbert and Bardstown Police assisted the sheriff deputies at the scene.
