Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, 11:21 p.m. — The Bardstown City Council approved a bid for a new water transmission line that will tie the Nelson County Industrial Park to an existing water main on US 62, the Bloomfield Road.
Hubert Excavating and Construction of Salvisa was low bidder on the project with their base bid of $868,400. An alternative of using PVC pipe rather than ductile iron could reduce the cost to $841,550.
Phil Meadors, an engineer with Kenvrions, reviewed the bids and recommended the Hubert bid to the council. “They are a couple of brothers and they really work in their business,” Meadors said. “When they decide to bid on a job, they usually get it.” Previously the company won the contract for the initial water line work in county industrial park for Flowers Foods, he said.
The council voted unanimously to award the bid to Hubert.
BB GUN RANGE. The council unanimously approved a request for Daisy Outdoor Products to setup a mobile BB gun shooting range at Tractor Supply store in Kentucky Home Square sometime in March.
While discharging a firearm or BB gun in the city limits is prohibited by city ordinance, Bardstown Police Chief Rick McCubbin explained he had reviewed the company’s plan for the range, how it will operate, and he believed it would be safe.
On the company’s website, firearm safety and education is one of the company’s missions. The company offers two mobile BB gun ranges, one that utilizes a portable enclosed trailer, and a second that makes use of an inflatable struture for uses as a gun range.
In other business, the council:
– Approved the appointment of Teddy Crume to the Development Review Board. Crume’s three-year appointment is a joint city-county appointment, Sheckles said. Crume replaces Ben Wathen, who resigned.
– Approved the reappointment of Brenda Ford to a four-year term on the Bardstown Housing Authority board.
– Approved three certificates of appropriateness recommended by the Historical Review Board; and,
– Approved the city street closing plan submitted by the Kentucky Bourbon Festival.
The City Council will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 for an executive session related to KRS 61.810, and to vote on an ordinance revising the hiring of the chief of the Bardstown Fire Department.
