STAFF REPORT
Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, 2:11 p.m. — Nelson County is under a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow beginning 11 a.m. Thursday through 1 a.m. Friday morning. Snow is expected to begin falling by late Thursday morning. Snow will intensify Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening before tapering off late Thursday night/early Friday morning. Snowfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected by Thursday evening.
Snowfall totals will be somewhat higher north of Nelson County. South Central Kentucky can expect snow totals of 2 to 4 inches.
Local school systems have not yet announced if they plan to cancel school Thursday or to have school and release students early if the heavy snow arrives during school hours.
The National Weather Service has received reports of scattered snow showers and ice pellets across Northcentral and Central Kentucky. This wintry mix will melt quickly, though travelers should be wary that ice may accumulate on bridges and overpasses.
