EDDIE O'DANIEL

(REVISED 5:15 p.m.) Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, 4:30 p.m. – Bloomfield Democrat Eddie O’Daniel filed Tuesday to run for the 15th District state senate seat that now represents Nelson and Bullitt counties.

In addition to O’Daniel, two additional Democrats filed Tuesday for the 15th District senate seat: Anne W. McAfee, an attorney from Mt. Washington and J. Scott Wantland, an attorney from Shepherdsville.

O’Daniel unsuccessfully challenged state Rep. David Floyd for the 50th District House seat in 2010. Floyd — a Republican who has also filed for the 15th District senate seat — faces two primary challengers in May. The Floyd-O’Daniel matchup may make it to the November ballot if Floyd bests his primary opponents — Dennis Mitchell, a former Bullitt County magistrate, and Joe E. Laswell, the current 3rd District magistrate in Bullitt County.

DEADLINE EXTENDED. Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd issued a restraining order today that extends the deadline for state legislative candidates until Feb. 7. The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that Shepherd has set a Feb. 6 hearing on a lawsuit filed by House Republicans challenging the constitutionality of House Bill 1, which redrew the lines for state house, senate and judicial districts.
