Verna Mae Greenwell, 92, Bardstown

VERNA MAE GREENWELL

Verna Mae Greenwell, 92, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at her home in Bardstown.  She was born Jan. 20, 1920, in St. Francis, formerly Chicago, to the late Joseph Hugh and Anna Knott Smith. She was the past owner of Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home and was a partner at Bardstown Country Club, Maywood and Woodlawn golf courses. She was a member of Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. “Jimmy” Greenwell; and two sons, James B. “Jim” Greenwell, Jr. and J.I. Greenwell.

She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn (Jodie) Haydon of Bardstown; one brother, Ted Smith of Louisville; one sister, Rosemary Browning of LaGrange; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, Caroline, Christopher, Haydon, Nicholas and Miller Osborne, Amelia and Hilary Pehlke; several nieces and nephews; and her special caregivers, Carolyn Thompson, Helen Tingle, Lisa Lewis, Leanne O’Bryan, Pat Gilbert and Judy Hutchins.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral with burial inSt. JosephCemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 8-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Barlow Funeral Home.  A prayer service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Memorial contributions may go to Hospice of Nelson County or St. Joseph School.
