Evelyn M. Dones, 102, Icetown

Evelyn M. Dones, 102, of Icetown, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at her home surrounded by her children and her caregiver/granddaughter Anita Back. She was born March 17, 1909 and lived her entire life in the Icetown area.

She born to the late Rodman “Doc” and Irene Wimpsett Vowels. She was a Catholic by faith and a member of the St. Catherine of Alexandra Catholic Church inNew Haven. She was a member of the New Haven Senior Citizens and the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 121 in Bardstown.

She was  preceded in death by her husband, Grover Cleveland Dones, Sr.; three sons; Willard Dones, Kenny Dones and Gerald Dones; three brothers, Pip Vowels, Floyd Vowels and Dink Vowels; two sisters, Margie Fogle and Lucille Ezell; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Cleveland “June Bug” Dones, Steve (Janet) Dones, and Larry (Nancy) Dones, all of Boston; three Daughters, Genevieve (Jack) Haseldon of North Vernon, Ind., Lois (Bill) Lashley and Jean (Darell) Back, both of Boston; a sister, Carmel Dones of Elizabethtown; 38 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in New Haven, with the Rev. Troy Overton officiating. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Church Cemetery in Bardstown.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, and 8-9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven. A prayer service is 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
