Louisville man killed in two-car crash on KY 245 north of Flaget Hospital

Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, 9:55 a.m. (UPDATED 7 p.m.) — A 21-year-old Louisville man died in a two-car crash north of Flaget Memorial Hospital. Shaun R. Barlow died in the crash that happened just north of the Flaget campus. The crash closed KY 245 while first-responders worked to attend the injured and investigate the crash. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office was on the crash scene about 9:05 Wednesday morning. Nelson County EMS transported Corey R. Spalding, 26, of Cox’s Creek, to Flaget hospital complaining of minor injuries.

Barlow was pronounced dead at the scene by the Nelson County Coroner. According to a press release from the coroner’s office, Barlow’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Early reports from the scene said a tanker truck was believed to be involved in the crash. Firefighters at the scene later reported the tanker was not involved in the crash.  The highway was reopened about 10:13 a.m.
