Pilot lands aircraft safely after reporting possible landing gear problem

Friday, March 2, 2012, 10:20 a.m. — An aircraft with a  possible landing gear malfunction made a safe landing Friday morning at Samuels Field, the Bardstown-Nelson County Airport. The pilot had earlier reported by radio his instrumentation did not show the left landing gear was fully deployed and locked. “I’ve side-slipped it, I’ve bounced it around, nothing changed,” the pilot told airport personnel by radio. The Bardstown Fire Department and Nelson County EMS were called to the airport while the pilot continued to burn off fuel before attempting a landing. While emergency crews were moving into place at the airport, the pilot reported the aircraft instruments now showed the landing gear was deployed and locked in place. At about 10:15 a.m., the pilot made a safe landing while emergency crews watched.
