Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 — Former Bardstown City Councilman Bill Buckman was found dead Thursday afternoon at his lake house in Adair County.
According to Buckman’s longtime friend, former Bardstown mayor John Royalty, Buckman was at his Adair County lake house to mow grass when his neighbors found him sitting outside his home unresponsive.
Royalty said he had talked with Buckman by telephone earlier in the day about a home improvement project for Buckman’s home. Royalty said word of his friend’s passing came as a shock. It appeared that Buckman may have suffered a massive heart attack, Royalty said.
Royalty said Buckman enjoyed getting away to his lake house, and that he died at a place where he loved spending his free time.
Buckman was an experienced gunsmith who worked for Kentucky Gun Co. and a retired Bardstown Police Officer.
“One thing about Bill, he always told you exactly what he thought,” Royalty said. “You always knew where you stood with Bill.”
Buckman won a seat on the Bardstown City Council in the November 2014 election and served two years.
