Saturday, June 9, 2018 — The summer season officially kicks off in Bardstown today with the 60th opening night performance of The Stephen Foster Story. Festivities begin at 6:30pm on the grounds outside the theatre, featuring the Eastern Kentucky University Bluegrass Band, costumed cast members, a silent auction, food for purchase, and more.
The Stephen Foster Story is the official outdoor musical of Kentucky and celebrates the music of Stephen Collins Foster, America’s first great composer. The show is set in the mid 1800’s and features breathtaking costumes of the time period, dozens of Foster’s songs, and a talented cast comprised of performers from Kentucky and beyond.
Johnny Warren, the drama’s executive artistic director, said that the recent issues with the amphitheater safety placed doubt that the drama would be able to open for another season this year.
“There was a time earlier this year that we weren’t sure this day would come,” he said. “But thanks to the support and dedication of so many people in Bardstown, Nelson County, the state of Kentucky and elsewhere, we are overjoyed to be opening this show for the 60th season. Our staff, cast, and crew can’t wait to welcome our audience back into the amphitheater and kick off another exciting year of entertainment & tradition.”
Tickets for The Stephen Foster Story begin at $22.50 for adults and $13.50 for children. For reservations and more information, call 800-626-1563 or visit stephenfoster.com. Tickets are also available for Mary Poppins and the Live at the Park Concert series. Season tickets for both shows and all six concerts are $160.
