Two people die in Saturday afternoon collision on New Haven Road near Balltown

Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019 — Two people died Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on New Haven Road near Balltown Road.

According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, at about 2:40 p.m. Saturday, a white Dodge Caravan driven by Mark Phelps of Radcliff was traveling south on US31E when the Carvan attempted a left turn into a driveway.

The Caravan turned into the path of a northbound 2013 Ford Explorer driven by Rhonda Johnson of New Hope, leading to a collision.

Deputies, Nelson County EMS and Nelson County Fire were dispatched to the accident scene.

Two of the passengers in the Caravan died at the scene. The driver and a third passenger were treated at the scene by Nelson County EMS and then transported to University Hospital.

Johnson and her two passengers in her vehicle were transported to the hospital for treatment by a private vehicle.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
