Joseph Thomas “Joe” Kirtley, 84, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, with his family at his bedside.  He was born August 24, 1927,  in New Albany, Ind., and grew up in Bardstown.  He was the valedictorian of his 1945 graduating class at St. Joe Prep, was a World War II Navy veteran and attended the University of Louisville for two years.  After working in sales and management, he established “Mr. Music” in 1973, a business that sold music and audio equipment for home and mobile use. He operated the business until he retired in 2005.  He was a regular contributing writer to the Kentucky Standard for many years and was a member of the St. Joe Prep Alumni Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy Hugh, Sr. and Margaret Gertrude Ryan Kirtley, a granddaughter, Mattea Burkhead, a brother, Timothy Hugh Kirtley, Jr. and a sister, Patsy Bourne.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Faye Keeling Kirtley; three sons, Pat (Joyce) Kirtley and Dennie Kirtley, both of Bardstown, and James Kirtley of Lexington; four daughters, Kathy (Tony) Delci of Arizona, Becky (Bill) Osborne of Bardstown, Mary Jean Kirtley and Angela Burton, both of Louisville; eight grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and a sister, Mary Catherine Young of Louisville.

A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Ben Brown will officiate.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Hospice of Nelson County.
