Margaret Elizabeth Maddox, 75, of Bardstown, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2026, at UofL Health South Hospital in Shepherdsville. She was born July 8, 1951, in Fairfield to the late Theodore “Bill” and Pauline Hughes Montgomery.
She married Gary Wayne Maddox April 27, 1972, at Second Baptist Church in Fairfield. She was a loving military wife and homemaker. She enjoyed shopping, dancing and traveling, but more than anything, she loved the Lord and being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Fairfield Second Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Timothy Wayne Maddox and Audrey Lynn Maddox; and six siblings, Charles Edward, Wanda, Mary Jo, Raynetta, Raymond and James Montgomery.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gary Wayne Maddox; four children, Michelle (Maurice) Pittman of Radcliff, Shakina Maddox and Arial Maddox, both of Bardstown, and Tyress Maddox of Springfield; eight siblings, Beverly Montgomery of Louisville, Marilyn Shouse, Barbara Edwards, Brenda Montgomery and Kathleen Williams, all of Bardstown, David (Jacquelyn) Montgomery of Chesapeake, Va.., Linda Harper of Elizabethtown, and Theodora Montgomery of Elizabethtown; nine grandchildren, Cacia Reed, Bre Maddox, Marshayla Alston, Shakira Gault, Brennen Maddox, Quintrell Phillips-Maddox, Azriel Phillips, Ziel Phillips, and Kyress Maddox; five great-grandchildren, Ari Patton, Nyelle Patton, Rayden Reed, Kalix Kimberland and Zakiya Beavers; her best friends, Sheila (Delroy) Hooks; a bonus son, David Carpenter; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at Fairfield Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Calvin R. Holloway officiating. Burial is in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at the Fairfield Second Baptist Church.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
