Billy Gene “Billy G.” Hobbs Sr., 78, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at Robley Rex Veterans Hospital in Louisville. He was a native of Chaplin and retired from Jim Beam Distillery as a messenger after 41-1/2 years of service He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Radcliff Methodist Church, and the former American Legion Post No. 113 of Elizabethtown. He was a member of the American Legion Riders Director of the Department of Kentucky and a volunteer for the Veteran Homeless Task Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James William and Evelyn Perkins Hobbs.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Perkins of Shepherdsville; a son Billy G. (Arlana) Hobbs Jr. of Mount Washington; one brother, Bobby Hobbs of Bardstown; four grandchildren, Jannah Perkins, Joshua Perkins, Troy (Allison) Hobbs and Kaitlyn Hobbs; one nephew, Brian Hobbs; one great-nephew, Zachary Hobbs; and a very special friend, Darlene Ellis ofSimpsonville.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with burial in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at the funeral home.
The family requests contributions in memory of Billy G. Hobbs Sr., checks made out to Robley Rex VA Center #135, 800 Zorn Ave. Louisville, KY 40206 and on the memo line put GPF 518. This will go to the Veterans Homeless Task Force.
