Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026 — Beginning in 2024 the City of Bardstown Water Utility started switching out existing Water meters with new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters that allow the City Water Utility and Metering Department to remotely read customers water meters via a radio or cellular signal, as opposed to needing to drive past or physically open water meter vaults to get monthly usage numbers. As of today’s date, August 18, 2026 the City has changed out over 7,000 meters: over half of the meters in its system.
The new AMI smart meters provide several benefits for customers. Customers can now view their own hourly, daily, and monthly water usage through the My Water Advisor™ website and/or download the My Water Advisor™ app to their smart phone. Access to the site requires creating an account using either their City Utility account (printed on all utility bills) or the cell phone number they used when they signed up for their utility service. Customers are encouraged to call City of Bardstown Customer Service at 502-348-5947 to confirm that their current phone number is associated with their account. Keeping a valid cell phone number on file provides an added benefit, allowing customers to receive text notifications about any outages or service interruptions.
Once registered with My Water Advisor, customers can set up alerts to notify them about usage in scenarios including:
• Suspected Leak – An alerts sent directly by the meter when a continuous 24 hour consumption is detected.
• Consumption Above Average – This alert is activated if there is irregular water usage compared to your same period’s average the previous year.
• Consumption Above Maximum – Activated when water usage is above your consumer-defined limit.
• Consumption While Absent – Receive a water usage alert during a specific time frame by defining an absence or holiday time period.
