County bracing for storms tonight; tornado watch active until 9 p.m.

STAFF REPORT

Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 1:23 p.m. — Nelson County and all of Central Kentucky is under a Tornado Watch until 9 p.m. tonight.

The National Weather Service reports that severe storms — including strong thunderstorms with large hail, dangerous lightning and damaging winds — are expected to develop as a low pressure system moves south from the Great Lakes region into the Ohio Valley. Storms that develop ahead of the front are expected to move quickly to the east-southeast through this evening.

The area identified with the most substantial threat of severe weather includes counties east of I-65 and south of the Ohio River.

Stay aware of rapidly changing weather conditions in our area.
