James William Summitt, 84, of Florence, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at University Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born Aug. 25, 1928, in Nelson County. He was a retired truck driver, a U.S. Army Veteran of Korean War, a member of American Legion Post 121 of Bardstown, and of First Christian Church (D.O.C.) of Bardstown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Summitt; one daughter, Beth Ann Summitt; one son, John Summitt; his parents, James and Irene Summitt; three brothers, C.J. Summitt, Floyd Summitt, and Phillip Summitt; and four sisters, Christine Harrell, Martha Lewis, Loraine Shelburne, and Naomi Mattingly.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Bining of Atlanta, Georgia; three sons, Michael Summitt of Covington, James Summitt Jr. of Florence, and David Summitt of Florence; five sisters, Janie Richardson, Lula Snellen, Priscilla Ludka, Shirley Wilson, and Linda Ritchie; one brother, Ralph Summitt; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her faithful Yorkie-Poo, Maya.
The funeral is 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at First Christian Church (D.O.C.) of Bardstown with Dr. Rick Loader officiating.
Visitation is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Barlow Funeral Home.
