Jerry Coomes, 74, of Bardstown, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Nelson County. He was the owner/operator of High Grove Grocery, a former employee of Leo’s Heating and Air, an Air Force veteran and of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Laura Coomes; his parents, Burr Edward II and Annie Beam Coomes; five brothers, Burr Edward Coomes III, John Coomes, James Coomes, Sam Coomes and David Coomes; three sisters, Frankie Mattingly, Lorindi Coomes and Juanita Coomes.
He is survived by three sisters, Edna Earl Yugal of Arizona, Mary Bill Bauer and Elsie Creek (Tom), both of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with cremation to follow. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in the Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
