To the editor,
Four years ago, I set forth a plan to move Nelson County government forward in the coming years. The plan was simple and straightforward:
1) Establish Ethical Government
2) Create a Pro-Business Environment, and
3) Enhance the Community.
From all of the career politicians taking the plan, changing a few words, and labeling it a vision, I have to say I am flattered from the use of these ideas. Even my style of being positive and professional is being used more. But the reason this works, is one has to be that way both publicly and in their private life. That is the secret. No one now argues against the County having ethical reform given all of the cronyism, favoritism, and nepotism. People want a government supportive of their dreams of a new home or business. Voters want an indoor Aquatic Center to serve our veterans, seniors, children and residents. All of these things are now accepted as what will happen in the coming years.
But we have two career politicians who run from their voting record, which are counter to these goals. I appear to be the only one who gives them credit for 20 years each, of public service that resulted in all of these problems, which they now want to solve. Give the voters credit, do not act the victim of the laws you both made over the course of two decades. Own your actions and your collusion to get us into this hot mess.
The People of Nelson County want new leadership, someone who has a proven track record in the business, military, non-profits, law enforcement, and education. We have to get citizens back into government, get their ideas and thoughts, and combine the power of government with the greater power of the People.
We can and will do better in the coming years; we just have to reject the Good Old Boy politics, and get behind the age old method of success: Teamwork. Anything is possible when you have good people doing great things.
