NWS: County severe thunderstorm warnings now until 8:45 p.m.

STAFF REPORT

Thursday, July 19, 2012, 8 p.m. — Nelson County is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8:45 p.m.

At 756 PM EDT… National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter size hail… and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. These storms were located along a line extending from Greenbrier to Shakertown… moving south at 25 mph.

The severe thunderstorms will also impact…  Springfield…  Lebanon…  Harrodsburg… Danville… Bardstown… Culvertown and Blue Gap… Saint Catharine and Gandertown… Dant and New Hope… Perryville and Needmore.

Excessive lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors  immediately! Stay away from windows. A strong period of gusty winds will precede the rainfall associated with these thunderstorms. This may cause tree and power line damage.
