Obituary: Adolph Hicks, 89, Bardstown

ADOLPH HICKS

Adolph Hicks, 89, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at his home in the Maple Hill neighborhood. He was born Dec. 8, 1925 in Holy Cross. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He was retired from Jim Beam’s Distillery after 34 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Hayden Hicks; one daughter, Sue Ann Harmon; his parents, Arthur and Minnie Hicks; one sister, Joyce Maglior; and two brothers, John Peake Hicks and Junior Hicks.

He is survived by four daughters, Dottie Mahaffey (Paul) of Tulsa, Okla., Janet Hicks of Bardstown, and Mary Helen Bidwell and Jane Hicks, both of Louisville; four sons, Larry Hicks (Ellen), Dan Hicks (Julie) and Michael Hicks (Tammy), all of Bardstown and Len Hicks of Louisville; two sisters, Anna Louise Edelen of Loretto and Kathleen Canter of Louisville; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery. Diocese of Owensboro Bishop Bill Medley will be officiate and the Rev. Bill Hammer will con-celebrate.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, and 9-10:15 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, at Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to the American Cancer Society or the donor’s favorite charity.

The Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
