Obituary: Arthur Wilcoxen Hatfield, 80, Bardstown

Arthur Wilcoxen Hatfield, 80, of Bardstown, died Thursday, April 30, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was born Jan. 13, 1946, in Bardstown to the late Arthur Gilbert and Virginia Kathleen Wilcoxen Hatfield.

He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1969 with degrees in civil, mechanical and environmental engineering. He served as an engineer for Dayton Power & Light in Dayton, Ohio for 13 years and was an environmental engineer for the Department of Defense at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and BAMC in San Antonio, TX for 31 years.

He was a member of Bardstown Baptist Church and was a Mason at the Grand Lodge of Ohio. He loved his family and was a strong supporter of his granddaughters’ 4H and FFA show goat projects in Texas and enjoyed supporting his grandson in all his endeavors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Valla Ray Hatfield Geoghegan; and one brother, Connor Keith Hatfield.

He is survived by two daughters, Heather Hatfield of Bardstown and Holly (Bradley) Strauch of Blanco, Texas; one sister, Diana Hatfield Ratliff of Bardstown; and three grandchildren, Samuel Erter, Taylor Strauch and Laney Strauch.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home. Burail is in the Bardstown Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026, and 9-11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the National Domestic Violence Hotline or to the Nelson County Humane Society.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
